BOOK EXCEPTS

God in My House:

Synopsis:

A multiracial story that focuses not on race, but on the human condition in need of the divine. The ongoing battle between good and evil affects us all, regardless of race, age, gender or beliefs. One young woman, Elise Everson, searches for the ultimate truth to make sense of it all. Through the influence of a pastor, a friend, and a young architect who has her heart, Elsie finds that truth in Christ. As her relationship with Christ blossoms, she is challenged by her growing love for Josiah Alexander. Both relationships are severely tested by a tragedy close to home and a sociopath's threat to her life. Through it all, Elise discover the incredible assurance that "God in her" is enough for any circumstance.

Excerpt:

"She needed to fulfill the ever-growing desire within her to know the Divine. She had been told He was knowable. Not only was her procrastination leaving her with what seemed like a hole in her soul, but it was also a wall between her and Josiah. Not that she should make this spiritual decision based on her increasing need for him, but, instinctively, she knew it had to be made regardless of him. This was not only for life now, but eternity."

God in My Church:

Synopsis:

Paul Stephen Rayner, a young, Black minister raised in a White family, is at a place where he's ready to move on from the painful grip of personal tragedy. When a diabolical nemesis from his past threatens to repeat history and a young intern challenges the very core of his beliefs, Paul is thrust on a journey that rocks his world more than he could have imagined: a journey fraught with corruption and deceit, and a face to face meeting with evil. As Paul struggles to keep his church and community from succumbing to the influence of dark forces, his rocked world comes crashing down, and he finds himself relying on the power of God and the love of a woman to help him stand the test.

Excerpt:

"He sighed. 'I'd rather you not challenge me right now,' he warned her. Her eyelids fluttered slightly, disbelief creeping into her gaze. So let it be. He had let her have her way at the hospital with her super-faith prayers, but this was his turf. Here: there was order and decisions; problems and solutions; God and he working hand in hand. It gave his life vision and purpose, and in spite of their common church background, she was exhibiting ways unfamiliar to his scope of ministry. And...she was messing with emotions long held in check"

God in My Town:

Synopsis:

What do a fiercely independent Black attorney and a rock of Gibraltar Jewish police sergeant have in common? Unknown to Tee-May (Theresa-May) Henley, only a union between her and Quinn Israel Baruch stands in the way of an evil stronghold slated for the town of Wardton. According to an ancient prophecy, Christian-Jewish offspring would perpetually hold the key in opposition to the stronghold. Yet, for Tee-May and Quinn, personal conflicts over a landmark residential property take centre stage. When a string of acts of church vandalism gives way to more serious, life-threatening attacks, the prophecy once more comes to the forefront. Tee-May is inspired by her Grandma Sadie to walk her God-ordained path. As Tee-May truly becomes and overcomer of her own painful past, she also learns to battle the unseen and allow her walls of defence to crumble in the face of true love.

Excerpt:

"...Quinn said, 'It's going to take a while to sift through it all, but we'll figure it out. Grandma Sadie really knew what she was talking about after all.' 'Did you ever doubt?' Tee-May asked. She felt so much better, here with him, away from all the drama. Shaking his head, he smiled. 'I have to admit, sometimes she spooked me out a little too much. But you - you casting out a demon? That tops the chart, Tee.' 'Well, it definitely wasn't me. It was the Holy Spirit's power, pure and simple.'"
